Is Burrata Pasteurized?

You may find Burrata with raw or pasteurized milk.

Pasteurization is a process that involves heating milk to eliminate harmful bacteria and extend shelf life.

Similarly to many commercially produced cheeses, burrata cheese is typically made with pasteurized milk, making it safe to consume. Pasteurization ensures that potential pathogens, such as listeria, are eliminated, reducing the risk of foodborne illnesses.

However,  artisanal or homemade burrata cheese is also available that is not pasteurized.

Always check the label or ask the cheesemonger to ensure that the burrata cheese you are purchasing is pasteurized.
